Geologists have put the cave a million year old. Reference of Trikuta Parvat is found in Rig Veda and also high complimentary reference have been found in the great epic of Mahabharata.
However, popular version about the pilgrimage to the Holy Cave starts 600 years back from pious Brahman named Shri Dhar of Hansali, Katra to whom this divine girl graced at Bhoomika, and Mata also beheaded Bhairav who had lost wisdom due to instable passion. Later She enshrined Herself in the cave.
